JUAC position statement on universal academisation
JUAC has a number of concerns about the impact of increasing academisation on asbestos management in schools. These concerns include the loss of the local authority as duty holder, poor quality asbestos surveys and low take up of the Risk Protection Arrangement.

Management of asbestos in academies guidance
This guidance is aimed at duty holders and local duty holders in academies to assist them in meeting their asbestos management responsibilities. The document contains checklists for academy sponsors considering taking over a school which contains asbestos, for multi academy trusts (MATs) that are duty holders and for duty holders in stand alone academies.

Derbyshire Asbestos Support Team (DAST) asbestos in schools online module and booklet
DAST, supported by many of the JUAC unions, has produced a very useful interactive guide about asbestos in schools. The online guide contains an interactive diagram which highlights where asbestos in schools can be found. It also contains useful information about steps which should be taken if asbestos is discovered in a school. The guide is available online here and the accompanying booklet is available here.
